WTF is an agentic interface?
A compelling vision of the future from the man who coined the term "filter bubble", plus news and views from across the AI design discourse.
As someone whose job entails reading a lot of interview transcripts, I’m extremely familiar with my verbal tics. I say “super duper” a lot, like a bumbling Brummie Hugh Grant, or a 1930s radio ad announcer (“There are super duper deals across all your household favourites, but hurry!”)
I also often use the phrase, “Explain it to me like I’m an idiot…” which I find particularly helpful when talking about AI, where knowledge levels differ wildly, and tech-y terminology is thrown around with an expectation that we – i.e. real people – know it means.
So when I heard Eli Pariser was predicting a future built around “agentic interfaces”, I knew I needed the idiot treatment. Which luckily Eli and his team provided, by way of their new report, After the Feed: Trust, connection, and the next era of social technology.
Pariser has a good track record – he coined the term “filter bubble” in 2011, to describe online echo chambers that re-enforce our existing beliefs (#nailedit).
So it’s worth paying attention when he sketches out a vision for the future of online spaces in an AI world. Here are my key takeaways from his 80-page deck which I think designers need to think about…
